Urgent: Anti-Immigrant Hostility and Trustee Inaction at Riverbank Elementary

Riverbank Elementary is experiencing a hostile, anti-immigrant atmosphere - reflecting broader far-right extremism - that contradicts Washington Unified School District’s (WUSD) safe-haven policies and Yolo County’s anti-racism resolution (20-76).

Key Incidents:

Maria Garcia: A PTA leader with a valid volunteer badge had police called on her within minutes of entering the school campus to drop off her child in his classroom—no prior warning was given, nor was a protocol given for entering the campus. She was later hit with a fake restraining order.

Lucia Cuellar: Her reasonable accommodation for her disabled son was denied despite repeated medical documentation. An accommodation was granted the previous year, in the 2024–25 school year. When she filed a complaint, the principal aggressively barreled into us, and attempted to ban me from campus without cause.

Staff Threats: A staff member publicly stated, “ICE needs to be called on uncooperative parents”—this statement was aimed at Spanish-speaking families.

Trustee Failure: Our Trustee refuses to meet with affected parents, Trustee Coffey is "ghosting" us, and openly sides with the district administration rather than meeting with the constituents that elected her to serve. Trustee Coffey claims the district forbids her from speaking to complainants.

Despite WUSD's public commitment to protect immigrant families, parents are being scapegoated, criminalized, and silenced. The district denies complaints, and families are left without recourse.

We demand immediate accountability, transparent investigations, and meaningful engagement from our elected Trustee.

These are examples of how other schools have no tolerance for non-professional conduct.
